Background

Located at Wollongong, south of Sydney, this student accommodation development comprising 254 beds was recently completed by Hutchinsons Builders for Wollongong University. Krystol Group Pty Ltd provided Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) concrete admixture and Hyperseal Waterstops to this project.

Solution

Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a chemical admixture used for the treatment of concrete and concrete products to protect against water intrusion, leakage, cracking, chemical attack, and corrosion of reinforcing steel. KIM has the advantage of being a self-sealing system that transforms concrete into a powerful waterproof barrier. Approx 1000m3 Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) was applied to the 2 roof decks and lift pit of this development.

Hyperseal waterstops were also used on this project. Hyperstop DB, a hydrophilic bentonite waterstop for in-situ concrete construction joints, was applied to the lift pits.
